Hey Reader,
As 2023 winds down, I wanted to touch on a crucial legal update that could significantly impact many of us: the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA).
The CTA requires companies to report beneficial ownership information to the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). This affects not just big corporations but small private companies too.
This new federal law goes into effect on January 1, 2024. Entities formed before January 1, 2024 will have until December 31, 2024 to file their reports, but entities formed after January 1, 2024 must file the CTA report within 30 days of formation (extended to 90 days for 2024 filings only). And there are severe penalties for non-compliance, including escalating financial and jail time of up to 2 years.😬😬
The CTA includes reporting personal data such as home addresses and identification details of all beneficial owners, not just members or shareholders of the entities.

We’d each buy one share of Berkshire Hathaway stock so we could go to Omaha to see Warren Buffett speak at the shareholder meeting. Not because we had big stock portfolios—just because it felt like one of those “one day” adventures. Go see Warren. See...
Warren Buffett updated his will at the end of last year—and his biggest tip might surprise you: Let your adult children read your will before you sign it. Whether you have “modest or staggering wealth,” Buffett says it’s a conversation every parent needs to have. Curious about why? Here's an article that breaks it down and links to his letter: Warren Buffett suggests all parents do one thing before they die. What do you think—sound advice? -Addie
This morning, my kids burst into my room, screaming, “It’s snowing! It’s snowing!” In New Orleans, that’s practically science fiction. Schools had been warning us since Friday—no classes today becuase of snow. Cue every working parent’s dilemma: how to keep kids entertained, off their devices, and still get anything done. Spoiler alert: it’s about as easy as finding a snow shovel in New Orleans. But this rare snowstorm got me thinking: life is full of surprises. Snow in New Orleans, a sudden...
